Understanding enlightenment
For
enlighten read: en-
(or in-, as an intensifier) + lighten (i.e. get brighter or lighter). Enlightenment
happens as the after-affect of an energy surge, that is to say, of a life and
life transmission enhancing capacity increase in a (i.e. any) living system. Energy
surges happen when a problem is solved and the energy invested in its
resolution released. Minor enlightenments are a frequent, everyday
occurrence, major enlightenments rare. There are
two problems whose resolution produces an energy surge - or acceleration of
speed (and which is self-interpreted as the various intensities of happiness,
joy and so on): 1.
Getting out of a problem (situation or process, i.e. an unsteady
state or astasis), and which saps or sucks
energy. Getting out (i.e. as in escendence) is experienced as release,
‘freedom from’ bondage (Sanskrit: moksha) 2.
Getting into a new solution (i.e. steady state or enstasis), and which adds energy. Getting in (or over, i.e.
as in transcendence) is experienced as
ecstasy (i.e. climbing over to an apparently safe haven). By contrast,
not getting out and not getting in (or over) sucks energy, resulting in an
energy depression or ‘low’ (or deceleration of speed) – to wit,
en-darkenment, or getting heavier - and which is interpreted as the various
intensities of suffering, pain and so on. When
self-interpreted as happiness or unhappiness, en-lighten-ment and
en-darken-ment function as simple and immediate, therefore direct and
effective Control & Guide mechanism. Enlightenment,
that is to say, the sudden (gradual increase is seldom noticed) increase in
available energy is not identical with 1.
Deliverance (Sanskrit: moksha, Pali: vimokkha) 2.
Nirvana, blown or cooled out @rest status 3.
Knowledge (Sanskrit: bodhi) 4.
