This is the Tathagata’s (later called the Buddha) basic theory as to the arising and cessation of form, suffering (Pali: dukkha) resulting from its friction and decay.

The nama-rupa (i.e. any thing or person, to wit, an identifiable ‘own being’ or self) as temporary cluster of effects or conditions not one’s own (to wit, anatta) results from craving (the 3rd explanation elaborates craving). When craving is eliminated, and with it the not one’s own (i.e. the ‘not I’, ‘this is not mine’) being that suffers, that’s liberation, elsewhere called nirvana.
